HAP In-Facility

Hawaii Advocate Program (HAP) In Facility serves high-risk youth between the ages of 12 and 20 who are incarcerated and referred by Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility (HYCF).  Cognitive life skills building group services are provided for all youths in HYCF to achieve a successful transition back in the community and be healthy, caring and responsible young persons.  Individual services are provided to youth referred from HYCF social workers for social acculturation, victim empathy, anger management, cognitive restructuring, transitional planning and relapse prevention.

Population and Admission Criteria

  • Youth from ages 12 years through age 20 years who are committed to the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility and participate in cognitive skill building groups at least one time weekly
  • Youth from ages 12 years through age 20 years who are committed to the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility and referred by their HYCF social worker and participate in weekly individual sessions of relapse prevention

Youth Responsibilities

  • Participation in the development of an individualized Service Plan and personal goals
  • Participation in program activities, at a specified number of hours per week

Discharge Criteria

  • Youth achieves goals of the program
  • Youth no longer wants to participate in services
  • Youth is released from the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility
