For youth to reunify with family or to succeed in a long-term living situation, the development of certain coping and living skills is necessary. Hanai Homes provides skill-building foster homes, providing youth in need with a safe, nurturing, and structured natural home environment.
Often, candidates for Hanai Homes are in need of temporary (6-12 months) out-of-home placement due to abuse and/or neglect within their family home. While in the program, youth receive regular support from a case manager/counselor and participate in weekly individual and group sessions.
Foster Parents who provide skill building foster homes receive pre-service as well as ongoing monthly trainings and support. (Hale Kipa’s Foster Home Development Program, which recruits and trains foster families, is described in another program insert).
Funding is provided through the State Office of Youth Services; referrals come from the Department of Human Services, Family Court, and the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility.
