Hale Kipa held a Hawaiian blessing ceremony on Aug. 8, 2018, to celebrate the completed preparation of the Hale Lanipōlua Assessment Center which will open on August 15th. The Center, located on the grounds of the Kawailoa Youth and Family Wellness Center, will serve victims/survivors of commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking ages 12-17 years old with safe, nurturing emergency shelter services. Assessment, 24/7 support, and linkages with community programs will also result in family reunification or alternative positive living arrangements.
As part of a summer Weinberg Project, the Exchange Club of Downtown Honolulu (below photo) generously donated the planting of 100 plants, a koa tree and two palms from Molokai. Mahalo to our community volunteers; Irvin Higashi for the landscape design, the Landscape Association of Hawaii and Waiahole Botanicals for donating the plants. Previously, the Junior league of Honolulu painted the interior and designed and furnished each resident’s room.
