More than Half a Century of Assisting At-Risk Youth

For more than a half century, Hale Kipa or “House of Friendliness” has specialized in working with at-risk youth and their families who have nowhere else to turn. In 2020, the nonprofit organization marked its 50th anniversary and reflected on the more than 65,000 youth throughout Hawai‘i it has been privileged to serve during that time. The new multi-purpose Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Hale Kipa Youth Services Center in West O‘ahu, the culmination of a 12-year vision and capital campaign, opened its doors in March 2020 and is ensuring the organization an even stronger 50 years to come.

A Lifeline for At-Risk Youth

Hale Kipa’s new logo, unveiled in 2020, provides a deeper connection to its new ‘Ewa moku headquarters. It is comprised of a spiral form, or piko in Hawaiian, which symbolizes Hale Kipa’s role as a “lifeline” for Hawai’i’s at-risk youth, and a kalo (taro) leaf, symbolizing the specific location where the new headquarters are located, which was once known as the Honoluiuli Taro Lands. The blue hue represents loyalty, strength, wisdom, faith and trust.
